Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about Detailing your Vehicle.
Typically small rust spots on vehicles, more noticeable on white, are metal particles from brake dust. Specific car detailing products such as acids, and fallout removers will help remove these metal particles. Another method for removal is a clay bar. Once the vehicle has been thoroughly washed you can rub a clay bar, with compliment product, on the painted surfaces and the clay will pick up the affected areas.
The best method for removing salt stains is a 50/50 mixture of hot water and a cleaning agent. You can spray the carpet and follow with a soft plastic bristle brush to further break up the hardened salt. Follow this method by vacuuming to remove excess water/cleaner on the carpet. You can repeat the process until it is removed. Always make sure to dry carpet and underlay.
Wax provides a thin temporary layer of protection on your clear coat. When you wash a car it will help in removing dirt and road grim without grinding and scratching it into the clear coat of the paint. It helps fight environmental exposure such as sun, rain, bird droppings, ect..
It will also help provide a better shine to your vehicle as it temporarily fills in small scratches and blemishes on your paint.
This question is asked a lot and there are a lot of factors that will determine its lifespan. Waxes have been known to last from 6 weeks up to 6 months. Some factors that can affect this include whether the car is stored in a garage, how many times you wash it (harsh soaps will easily break down wax), what type of wax (paste, liquid, spray, synthetic), and how well it was prepared. Wax is not permanent; however, there are products such as ceramic coatings that will cost a lot more and are permanent coatings.
Swirls are most commonly caused by improper cleaning. Typically when your car is dirty if you do not rinse and pre wash before making contact with a wash mitt you will be rubbing all the contaminants over and around your paint causing these fine marks. Another example of this can be simply wiping your car with microfiber detailing clothes while the vehicle has light dust over it. The best method to clean a vehicle before touching it is with proper chemicals, and or a pressure washer or foam cannon. The less contact made, the less likely to create swirls.
